I took my first indoor cycling class in 2008…and left the room halfway through it to puke in a trash can before going back in to finish the ride. I was the queen of not listening to my body, of adding resistance because the person next to me added resistance and I thought I had to do better than them. What can I say? I was an athlete my whole life, so I was used to being in competition. When I started going to studios with leaderboards, mirrors everywhere and all sorts of tech, it was the same thing, but escalated. Instead of paying attention to how my body was feeling, I paid attention to numbers and rankings.
If you’ve ever wondered why we don’t have mirrors, leaderboards or fancy tech hooked up to our bikes at upcycle, that’s why. Because it’s when you ditch the distractions and really connect in with your body, your breath, your self…that the magic happens. Not just physically, but mentally. It's not about the numbers here. It's about finding the joy in moving your body, of feeling the energy in the room that comes with collective movement, about finding a community of people from all walks of life who are here with the same goal: to feel good. After more than 8 years of owning this business, I can only hope that I’ve helped people feel as much at home in their bodies as I’ve learned to feel in mine just from spending so much time on this bike that goes nowhere.

We totally get that trying something new can be intimidating. Even if you've been coming to the studio for years, trying a new class format can be a little daunting.
Never fear! We put together a little roundup of class essentials: the what to wear and what to bring for each type of class we offer. If it's not listed, we have it available for you to borrow at the studio (mats, towels, all equipment). 🚲️ 𝘾𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 + 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙤𝙨 🚲️ 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘳: clothes you're comfortable moving in, sneakers or cycling shoes if you have them. Our pedals are all sneaker and SPD compatible, half of them are good for LOOK Delta cleats. For combos with a cycling portion, you can wear shoes or no shoes for the off-bike section -- whatever you're comfortable in. 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: water bottle. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴: always a bike, sometimes a mat and equipment (all provided). 🔥 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙚, 𝙋𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 + 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙤𝙨 🔥 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘳: clothes you're comfortable moving in, grippy socks if you have them. Barefoot is allowed, however grippy socks are your safest option as they keep your feet planted on the ground no matter what we're doing! 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: water bottle. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴: a mat and whatever equipment your instructor plans for (all provided). ✨ 𝙔𝙤𝙜𝙖 + 𝙔𝙤𝙜𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙤𝙨 ✨ 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘳: clothes you're comfortable moving in. 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: water bottle. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴: a mat and whatever yoga props your instructor plans for (all provided). 💦 𝘾𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙨 + 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙚 💦 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘳: clothes you're comfortable moving in. You can wear sneakers or take your shoes off: up to you! 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: water bottle. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴: a mat and whatever equipment your instructor plans for (all provided). Now, who's ready to try something new? |
